MELBOURNE - Aug 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system south of the Bight directs a southerly airstream over New South Wales. The high will be slow moving over the next day or two with shower activity expected near the coast, mostly northern half, and generally fine conditions in the west. A trough is expected to deepen over western Queensland/northwest NSW Thursday with a low pressure system likely to form on Friday. Rain is expected to develop in the far northwest of the state Thursday, then spread to the northwestern third or so of the state during Friday and increase. The low and expected extensive rain band will move slowly east on Saturday with the heaviest falls likely from the central north southward through the Central West Slopes to the Riverina, and with some rain extending to the coast later in the day. At this stage it is expected that the rain will generally ease as it moves through eastern districts on Sunday with showers persisting on and west of the ranges. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayWidepread showers along the central part of the coast, locally heavy with possible thunder. Scattered showers about eastern parts of the central ranges and isolated showers along the north coast and adjacent ranges. Dry, mostly clear remainder. South to southeasterly winds, fresh along the coast. Dangerous surf conditions.Wednesday 13 AugustScattered showers along the northern half of the coast and adjacent ranges, locally heavy along the coastal fringe with possible thunder. The chance of afternoon showers in the northwest with thunder possible near the Queensland border. Morning frost areas about the ranges and southern inland. Mostly clear elsewhere. South to southeasterly winds, fresh along the coast.Thursday 14 AugustIsolated showers along the northern coast and adjacent ranges. Patchy rain in the far northwest with possible thunder. Partly cloudy remainder. Early frost about the southeast. East to southeasterly winds.Friday 15 AugustWidespread rain over the northwest third of the state, locally moderate to heavy and with possible thunderstorms. Patchy rain extending east to the western slopes of the northern and central ranges late. Isolated showers about the north coast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 16 AugustRain areas on and west of the ranges, likely widespread and heavier from the central north southward through the Central West Plains to the Riverina. Rain mostly clearing in the northwest, and spreading to the coast later in the day.
