MELBOURNE - Aug 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system moving slowly east over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the central and northern Queensland coast. A new high has entered the Great Australia Bight and will strengthen as it remains relatively stationary and extends a strong ridge across east Queensland on Wednesday. An upper low will most likely develop over the Great Australian Bight on Tuesday and move northeast into South Australia and strengthen on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine and mostly clear across most of the state, with only isolated showers about the east tropical coast. Mostly moderate east to southeast winds over the north of the state, fresh at times along the east tropical coast. Mostly moderate southeast to southwest winds over the remainder.Monday 11 AugustFine and mostly sunny across most of the state with only isolated showers about the east tropical coast and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. Mostly moderate south to southeast winds increasing to fresh to strong over the east coast.Tuesday 12 AugustA strong high over the Great Australian Bight will extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast as it continues to slowly move east. A moist onshore flow will lead to possible showers along parts of the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist elsewhere. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.Wednesday 13 AugustThe strong high over the Great Australia Bight will continue to build a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. Moisture will also extend from the coast further into the interior of the state. An upper trough is likely to strengthen into an upper low and move towards the southwest of the state, and produce some isolated and scattered showers further inland through the southern and central interior.Thursday 14 AugustThe upper low will most likely move over far southwestern Queensland and deepen a surface trough extending across western Queensland. Moistening low level flow on the eastern side of the trough should lead to increasing shower activity through the central inland and southwest; if the trough deepens sufficiently, this activity may spread to rain areas and isolated thunderstorms late in the day and evening. Meanwhile, the strong high over the Great Australia Bight will continue to extend a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow.Friday until SundayThe upper low will most likely remain over far southwestern Queensland and move slowly east during the period, with a deepening surface trough extending across western Queensland slowly moving east also. Moistening low level flow on the eastern side of the trough should lead to increasing showers and the possibility of rain areas and thunderstorms through the central inland extending into the southeastern interior by Sunday. Meanwhile, the strong high over the Great Australia Bight will likely move slowly east over during the outlook period, continuing a firm ridge through much of Queensland.
