MELBOURNE - Aug 9/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system over southeastern Australia extends a firm ridge along the central and northern Queensland coast. The high will move eastwards over the Tasman Sea during the weekend with the ridge gradually weakening as a result. A new high will enter the Great Australia Bight late in the weekend and strengthen as it moves slowly eastwards early next week. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and sunny across most of the state with only isolated showers about the east coast, more frequent about the north tropical coast and exposed parts of the southeast coast. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh to strong at times along the east tropical coast.Sunday 10 AugustFine and mostly sunny across most of the state with only isolated showers about the east coast, more scattered about the north tropical coast during the morning. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeast interior. Mostly moderate east to southeast winds over the north of the state, fresh to strong at times along the east tropical coast. Mostly moderate southeast to southwest winds over the remainder.Monday 11 AugustThe strong high will remain slow moving in the Great Australia Bight maintaining the fresh southeasterly winds and possible showers along parts of the east coast. Dry air will persist over much of the interior of the state leading to fine and sunny conditions. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.Tuesday 12 AugustThe strong high will extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast as it continues to slowly move east over the Great Australian Bight. A moist onshore flow will lead to possible showers along parts of the east coast while an upper trough over southeastern Australia will possibly enhance showers over the southeastern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist elsewhere.Wednesday 13 AugustThe strong high over the Great Australia Bight will continue to build a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. Moisture will also extend from the coast further into the interior of the state. An upper trough is likely to strengthen into an upper low and move into the southwest of the state, and may enhance showers near the southern coast and produce some isolated showers further inland through the southern and central interior.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper low will most likely remain fairly slow-moving over far southwestern Queensland or northeastern South Australia during the period, with a deepening surface trough extending across western Queensland. Moistening low level flow on the eastern side of the trough should lead to increasing showers, and possibly a few thunderstorms through the central inland and southwest. Meanwhile, the strong high over the Great Australia Bight will likely move slowly east over during the outlook period, continuing a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 09:45 on Saturday 9 August 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
