MELBOURNE - Aug 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system over southeastern Australia extends a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast. The high will move east over the Tasman Sea during the weekend, with the ridge gradually relaxing as a result. A new high will enter the Great Australia Bight late in the weekend and strengthen as it moves slowly eastwards. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers about the east coast near and north of St Lawrence, more frequent at times about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers developing late in the day about the exposed southeast coast and islands. Fine and mostly clear conditions elsewhere. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds over southeast districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty east to southeasterly winds elsewhere, strong at times near the east tropical coast.Saturday 9 AugustIsolated showers about the east coast, tending more frequent about the north tropical coast. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeast interior. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh to strong at times along the east tropical coast.Sunday 10 AugustThe high in the Tasman Sea should continue to move eastwards and weaken whilst a new high will move eastwards into the Great Australia Bight and strengthen. Isolated to scattered showers about the north tropics will decrease during the day. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist elsewhere apart from possible showers along remaining parts of the east coast. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeast interior.Monday 11 AugustThe strong high will remain slow moving in the Great Australia Bight maintaining the fresh southeasterly winds and possible showers along parts of the east coast. Dry air will persist over much of the interior of the state leading to fine and sunny conditions. Clear skies overnight may lead to a light frost about the parts of the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.Tuesday 12 AugustThe strong high will extend a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast as it continues to slowly move east over the Great Australian Bight. A moist onshore flow will lead to possible showers along parts of the east coast while an upper trough over southeastern Australia will possibly enhance showers over the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist elsewhere.Wednesday until FridayThe strong high will likely remain very slow moving over the Great Australia Bight during the outlook period, building a firm ridge through much of Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers will occur about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. Moisture will also extend from the coast further into the interior of the state. The upper trough will most likely move north from New South Wales during the period, possibly enhancing showers near the southern and central coast and producing some isolated shower and possible thunderstorm activity further inland through the southern and central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 09:15 on Friday 8 August 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
