MELBOURNE - Aug 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near Adelaide extends a ridge across northern Victoria. A cold front will cross southern Victoria this morning. The high will follow the front and be located over Victoria by tonight before crossing to the Tasman Sea on Friday. The next cold front will move from the Bight to reach western Victoria late Saturday, crossing the remainder of the State overnight and early Sunday as a strong high pressure system develops south of the Bight. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and drizzle patches over southern and mountain areas, scattered this morning and early afternoon near the coast. Showers contracting to the coast at night. Snow above 1600 metres. Dry with cloudy periods over the northern plains. Early light frost in the far northwest. A cool day with light to moderate westerly winds inland. Southwest to southerly winds developing along the central and east coasts.Friday 8 AugustEarly frost and fog patches in the north. Patchy drizzle over the eastern ranges clearing in the afternoon. Dry elsewhere apart from isolated clearing showers over South Gippsland. A cool day with cloudy periods and light to moderate northwesterly winds.Saturday 9 AugustEarly frost and fog patches, mainly in the north. A cool to mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds ahead of a west to northwesterly change over western districts in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers developing with the change near and south of the ranges and tending more extensive towards the coast.Sunday 10 AugustScattered showers over southern and mountain districts with isolated showers over the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres.
