Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 5/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system over southern Australia will maintain a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast during the forecast period. A trough extends through western Queensland, with a relatively moist and unstable airmass extending through districts to its east. The trough is expected to weaken as it shifts west towards the Northern Territory during today. A dry airmass will then extend through the interior of the state in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the northwest, contracting further west into the Northern Territory during the day. Isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland, mostly north of Fraser Island and more frequent near the Cassowary Coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A cool morning with early frosts about the southeastern interior and Maranoa. Light to moderate southeasterly winds over southern districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty east to southeasterly winds elsewhere, strong at times near the east tropical coast.Thursday 7 AugustThe high should move east over southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge and isolated to scattered showers about the central and north tropical Queensland coasts. Showers should clear the Fraser coast during the morning. A dry airmass will extend into remaining parts of the state, with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected and early frosts over the southern and southeastern interior.Friday 8 AugustThe high is expected to shift further east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and isolated showers about the central and north tropical coasts. Winds will also tend more onshore along the southern coast with possible isolated showers developing. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over remaining parts of the state, with the clear skies leading to a cold morning and early frosts through the central, southern and southeast inland.Saturday 9 AugustThe high will shift slowly east through the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Moisture will increase over southeast districts and the Capricornia with isolated showers about the coast extending west to inland parts during the day. Possible isolated showers will occur in the fresh onshore wind flow along the remaining east coast, particularly about the north tropical coast. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeast interior, particularly in the Maranoa.Sunday until TuesdayA new, strong high will likely strengthen further as it shifts slowly east over the Great Australia Bight during the outlook period, extending a firm ridge into Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers will occur about much of the east Queensland coast in the fresh to strong onshore wind flow. Moisture will also extend from the coast further into the interior of the state. An upper trough will most likely move north from New South Wales during the period, possibly enhancing showers near the southern and central coast and producing some shower and storm activity further inland through the southern and central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
