Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
Strong high pressure systems over southern Australia will maintain a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast during the forecast period. A deep trough extends through western Queensland, with a relatively moist and unstable airmass extending through districts to its east. This trough is expected to weaken as it shifts further west towards the Northern Territory during Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated to scattered showers over southern and central parts of the state, more frequent in the southwest near Windorah with possible isolated storms. Isolated showers and possible storms through the tropical interior. Scattered showers near the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly clear in the northwest. Moderate to fresh and gusty south to southeasterly winds near the east coast and in the west. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Tuesday 5 AugustIsolated to scattered showers about the east coast and nearby inland, more frequent along the Cassowary Coast. Isolated to scattered showers in the southwestern corner of the state and through the central west with possible isolated storms. Isolated showers extending into the northwest of the state during the evening. Fine and mostly sunny over the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and southern Burnett with possible early frost patches. Mostly fine over the central interior with just the chance of isolated showers. Fresh and gusty southeasterly winds along the east coast, strong at times north of Gladstone. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 6 AugustA high centre should remain slow moving over the Great Australian Bight while the high in the Tasman Sea will weaken, relaxing the ridge through southern Queensland waters. The trough and associated isolated shower activity will gradually contract out of northwestern Queensland into the Northern Territory. An onshore wind flow will result in isolated showers persisting about the east coast and nearby inland, more frequent near the Cassowary Coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Early frosts are likely about the southeastern interior and Maranoa.Thursday 7 AugustThe high should move east over southeastern Australia, maintaining a firm ridge and isolated to scattered showers about the central and north tropical Queensland coasts. Showers should clear the Fraser coast during the morning. A dry airmass will extend into remaining parts of the state, with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected and early frosts over the southern and southeastern interior.Friday 8 AugustThe high is expected to shift further east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and isolated showers about the central and north tropical coasts. Winds will also tend more onshore along the southern coast with possible isolated showers developing. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over remaining parts of the state, with the clear skies leading to a cold morning and early frosts through the central, southern and southeast inland.Saturday until MondayThe high will weaken as it shifts further east through the Tasman Sea. A new, strong high will enter the Great Australian Bight during the weekend, maintaining a ridge over the north tropical Queensland coast. Onshore winds will result in isolated showers over the east coast and nearby inland. Moisture should extend a little further west on Monday and combine with a trough moving north from New South Wales to possibly enhance showers near the southern and central coasts and lead to some isolated shower activity developing further inland through the southern and central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
