MELBOURNE - Aug 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards during the weekend, extending a firm ridge into Queensland. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and sunny conditions over most of the state. Isolated light showers about the northeastern tropical coast. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds will develop about the southeast coast, with strong winds likely to develop over the South East Gulf of Carpentaria waters.Fire Danger - Very High over the Gulf Country and the central and southern inland.Sunday 3 AugustThe high will move very slowly eastwards over southeastern Australia with fresh to strong southeasterly winds developing along the entire east coast, with strong winds likely over southern Gulf waters during the morning. Isolated showers will be limited to the north tropical east coast, central coast, and the southern coast, tending scattered between about Cooktown and Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist in the interior with areas of morning frost in the southern interior.Monday 4 AugustThe high is expected to move slowly east while still maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Early frosts to continue about inland southeastern parts. The fresh to strong southeasterly winds about the east coast are likely to contract to the north out of southern waters. Scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast with isolated showers about most of the remaining east coast. An upper trough may approach the far west of the state increasing chances of isolated showers about the western, central and southern interior.Tuesday 5 AugustThe strong high is expected to move slowly over the Great Australian Bight, maintaining the firm ridge and fresh to strong winds along the Queensland east coast. Scattered showers about the northeast coast, with isolated showers about the remaining east coast. An upper trough is likely to intensify over central Australia, with the surface trough over western Queensland deepening in response. There is uncertainty surrounding strength of this upper system, and subsequent moistening of the flow into the eastern side of the trough. At this stage the most likely result is for isolated to scattered showers to develop the western and central interior.Wednesday until FridayThe strong high is expected to move slowly east and weaken as it moves into the Tasman Sea late in the period. Early frosts to continue about inland southeastern parts. The fresh to strong southeasterly winds about the east coast are likely to decrease. Scattered showers about the northeast coast, with isolated showers about the remaining east coast.
