MELBOURNE - Aug 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An intense low pressure system just southeast of Tasmania will move rapidly east tonight and a cold trough over Victoria will also move out over the Tasman Sea. A high pressure system moving over Bight waters will move east to reach northern Victoria later on Saturday then it will remain almost stationary over the State until Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers mainly on and south of the divide with local hail and thunder. Snowfalls down to 400 metres. Very cold with fresh to strong southwesterly winds, easing inland tonight.Saturday 2 AugustVery cold at first with widespread inland frost. Scattered showers on and south of the ranges becoming isolated during the morning and contracting to the coast at night. Local hail with the showers over the central district and Gippsland, clearing to the east late in the day. Dry and mostly sunny on the northern plains. Snowfalls to 600 metres lifting to 1000 metres in the afternoon. Mainly moderate southwesterly winds, fresh to strong at first about the Gippsland coast.Sunday 3 AugustVery cold at first with widespread severe frosts inland and fog patches in the east. Isolated early morning showers near the Gippsland coast. A fine and sunny afternoon throughout. Light winds.Monday 4 AugustVery cold at first with widespread inland frost and fog patches in the south and east. A fine, cool and mainly sunny day with light and variable winds.Tuesday 5 AugustMorning inland frost and local fog. A generally fine day but the chance of light showers about the west coast and the South Gippsland coast.
