Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough over southwestern Queensland will move north and eastwards across the state today, moving off the southeast coast of Queensland late on Friday. A strong high pressure system over southern Western Australia will move slowly eastwards over southern Australia during the weekend, extending a firm ridge into Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of FridayFine and sunny across most of the state, with just possible isolated showers about the far northeastern tropics, and isolated morning showers about Fraser Island. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds in the tropics, tending moderate to fresh north to northwesterly along the southern coast. Winds shifting in the interior from light northeast to northwest to moderate south to southwesterly.Fire Danger -  Very High Danger in the southern and central interior, and in the northwest.Saturday 2 AugustFresh to strong southeasterly winds will develop about the southeast coast in the wake of the surface trough, with strong winds also likely to develop over the South East Gulf of Carpentaria waters. Cool southerly winds will extend through western and southeastern Queensland, with early frosts returning to southern inland parts. Some light shower activity may occur about the northern tropical east coast. Fine and sunny conditions through the interior as the high slowly moves eastwards over southeastern Australia.Sunday 3 AugustThe high will move very slowly eastwards over southeastern Australia with fresh to strong southeasterly winds developing along the entire east coast, with strong winds likely over southern Gulf waters during the morning. Isolated showers will be limited to the north tropical east coast and about exposed parts of the southern coast, tending scattered between about Cooktown and Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist in the interior with areas of morning frost in the southern interior.Monday 4 AugustThe high is expected to move slowly east while still maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Early frosts to continue about inland southeastern parts. The fresh to strong southeasterly winds about the east coast are likely to contract to the north out of southern waters. Scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast with isolated showers about most of the remaining east coast. An upper trough may approach the far west of the state which may lead to some isolated showers about the western and central interior but little rainfall is expected.Tuesday until ThursdayThe strong high is expected to move slowly east and weaken as it moves into the Tasman Sea late in the period. Early frosts to continue about inland southeastern parts. The fresh to strong southeasterly winds about the east coast are likely to decrease. Scattered showers about the northeast coast, with isolated showers about the remaining east coast. There is some uncertainty about the development and movement of the upper trough during the outlook period but there is a possibility of isolated showers over the western and central interior extending eastwards into the southeast interior during the period.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
