MELBOURNE - Aug 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An intense low pressure system will pass just southeast of Tasmania today. Another cold front will enter southwestern Victoria this morning and then move across the State during the day, maintaining a very cold and squally southwest to southerly airflow across the State. The next high pressure system will then rapidly approach from the Bight, reaching western Victoria late on Saturday. A high pressure ridge will extend across northern Victoria on Sunday and Monday, with high pressure centres located in the Bight and the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers mainly on and south of the divide with local hail and thunder. Showers becoming more frequent during the afternoon and clearing from the northern inland areas towards the evening. Snow falls down to 500 metres. A very cold day with cloudy periods. Fresh westerly winds turning stronger and squally southwest to southerly from the west in the afternoon.Saturday 2 AugustVery cold at first with widespread inland frost. Showers on and south of the ranges becoming isolated during the morning. Dry on the northern plains. Snowfalls to 500 metres lifting to 1000 metres in the afternoon. Mainly moderate southwesterly winds, fresh to strong at first about the coast.Sunday 3 August Very cold at first with widespread inland frost and fog patches in the east. Isolated morning showers near the Gippsland +coast. Light westerly winds. Monday 4 AugustVery cold at first with widespread inland frost and fog patches in the east.
