MELBOURNE - Aug 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold southwesterly airmass associated with a deep low near Tasmania will move across southern parts of the state this morning. A high will develop over the Bight later Friday and then move east to be near the Victorian border Saturday evening then move very slowly east early next week. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers over the agricultural area, scattered during the morning about the southern agricultural area east of Port Lincoln and also about the southern Flinders Ranges. Showers contracting to southern coasts and ranges during the afternoon and evening. Isolated squally thunderstorms south of about Adelaide, contracting southeast during the morning to clear by mid-afternoon. Possible hail over the agricultural area, contracting east during the day. Possible snow about the higher peaks of the Mount Lofty and Flinders Ranges during the morning. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong about the coasts and possibly reaching gale force about southern coasts, easing to light to moderate southerly by evening.Saturday 2 AugustPossible isolated showers about the southern coastal areas. Fine elsewhere. A cold to very cold morning with areas of frost. Cool to mild during the day with light winds becoming moderate northeasterly winds.Sunday 3 AugustPossible isolated showers about the Lower South East coast. Fine elsewhere. A cold morning with areas of frost. Cool to mild during the day with light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds.Monday 4 August A cold morning with areas of frost. Fine and cool to mild during the day with light to moderate southeasterly winds tending northwesterly in the far south. Cumulative rainfall totals from Friday to midnight Monday are expected to be less than 2 mm over the northern agricultural area and south of the pastorals, increasing to 5 to 10 mm over the southern agricultural area, with local falls of 10 to 20 mm about the Lower South East coast and the Mount Lofty Ranges. Tuesday until ThursdaySlight chance of a light shower about the Lower South East coast until Thursday. Slight chance of isolated showers over the north of the Northeast Pastoral district. Areas of morning frost on Tuesday.
