MELBOURNE - Jul 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system located over inland NSW extends a ridge to eastern Victoria and will continue to drift eastwards and weaken tonight, as a cold front passes to the south of Victoria. A northwesterly airstream will strengthen over Victoria during Monday as another cold front crosses Bight waters, but again slips away to the southeast across southwestern Victoria and Bass Strait on Tuesday. A stronger cold front will move across the Bight to approach western Victoria Wednesday evening and will then move across the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayDrizzle patches about the northeast ranges. Isolated showers develop over the southwest during the evening, otherwise fine over the remainder. Partly cloudy day with moderate northwest winds, fresh at times over the west and about the ranges.Monday 28 JulyEarly morning fog patches in the east and possible areas of morning drizzle about the east ranges. Isolated showers and the chance of a thunderstorm developing over the southwest during the afternoon. Cloudy periods but fine over the remainder apart from a slight chance of an afternoon shower in the north. A cool to mild day with a fresh and gusty north to northwesterly wind.Tuesday 29 JulyScattered showers extending from the west, mainly on and south of the divide. Showers falling as snow on the east ranges above 1600 metres. Fine over the far northwest and over East Gippsland. A partly cloudy, cool to mild day. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, possibly reaching gale force at times on the ranges and near the coast.Wednesday 30 JulyScattered showers mainly on and south of the divide, although isolated showers extending to southern parts of the northern districts during the afternoon. Fine in the far northwest and over East Gippsland. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with a fresh to strong west to northwest winds.Thursday 31 JulyAreas of rain contracting eastwards across the State during the day, although more patchy in the far northwest and over Gippsland. Fresh to strong northwest winds reaching gale force at times in the south, shifting strong and squally west to southwest during the day with a cold change.
