MELBOURNE - Jul 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak low pressure system is drifting eastwards over the Tasman Sea this evening, while a high pressure system over western NSW extends a ridge to northern Victoria. The high will drift eastwards and weaken during Sunday while a cold front will pass to the south of Victoria in the evening. A northwesterly airstream will strengthen over Victoria on Monday as another cold front crosses Bight waters, but again slips away to the southeast across southwestern Victoria and Bass Strait on Tuesday. A stronger cold front will move across the Bight to approach western Victoria Wednesday evening. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers mainly over southern and mountain areas and falling as snow above 1500 metres, clearing from the west late afternoon or early evening. Partly cloudy with moderate west to southwesterly winds extending through the east,Sunday 27 JulyLocal morning fog. Isolated showers about the east ranges and exposed parts of the Gippsland coast, clearing by early afternoon. Snow showers above 1600 meters. Fine over the remainder until isolated showers develop over the southwest during the evening. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with day with light to moderate northwest winds, freshening the west during the afternoon.Monday 28 JulyIsolated showers over the eastern ranges and developing over the southwest during the afternoon. The chance of a afternoon thunderstorm in the southwest and snow showers possible above 1600 metres. A cool to mild day with a fresh and gusty north to northwesterly wind.Tuesday 29 JulyScattered showers extending from the west on and south of the divide, falling as snow about the Alpine peaks. Isolated showers possible over southern parts of the northern districts, but fine over the far northwest. Cool to mild day with fresh to strong northwesterly winds.Wednesday 30 JulyScattered showers on and south of the divide, contracting to the east ranges and coastal areas later in the afternoon or evening. Isolated showers possible over southern parts of the northern districts but fine in the far northwest.
