MELBOURNE - Jul 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east, extending a firm ridge northeastwards over Queensland and providing a cool, dry air flow over most of the state. The high will weaken over southeastern Australia from Sunday, gradually relaxing the ridge. A large, complex low pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea and is expected to shift further east during the weekend, decreasing the winds over southeast districts of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated light showers possible about the far northeast coast. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior. Mostly moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty at times in the southeast.Fire Danger - Very High Fire Danger over central districts and the Wide Bay.Sunday 20 JulyA high lying over southern Australia should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as it moves southeastwards towards Tasmania. A trough moving northwards through southeast Queensland will lead to strong winds being maintained over southern waters, and may lead to a light shower or two developing about the exposed coast and islands in the evening. A light shower or two may affect the tropical east coast. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior.Monday 21 JulyThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as it continues contracting to the southeast. Isolated showers will occur about the southeast coast and will possibly also develop about the southeast inland during the afternoon. Isolated showers should also affect parts of the tropical east coast. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior.Tuesday 22 JulyThe weakening ridge and should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as the high shifts generally eastwards over the Tasman Sea. Isolated showers will occur about parts of the tropical east coast and also about the exposed islands in the southeast. Widespread frost will occur over parts of the central and southern interior.Wednesday until FridayA weakening ridge extending up the east Queensland coast will maintain the fine and sunny conditions for the interior of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast in an onshore wind flow, mostly about the tropics.
