Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 17/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front over southern Victoria will move to the far east of Bass Strait by Thursday night. An associated low pressure cell will cross Tasmania during Thursday to also lie east of Bass Strait on Friday morning then move eastward over the Tasman Sea. A strong high pressure ridge will be located in the eastern Bight by late Friday, moving to western Victoria during Saturday. The high should then track slowly eastward over the weekend and early next week, reaching far eastern Victoria by late Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers and local hail, with snow down to 600 metres about the ranges. Showers tending more isolated in the northwest this evening. Isolated thunderstorms over southern and mountain areas and also the northeast, contracting to the south this evening. Fresh west to southwesterly winds tending strong near the coast with local squalls.Friday 18 JulyScattered showers near the coast and the eastern Dividing Range, more widespread in the far southeast with isolated thunderstorms in the morning. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, generally dry in the north. Snow down to 700 metres in the morning, increasing to 1200 metres at night. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at first near the coast though gradually moderating from the west.Saturday 19 JulyIsolated showers over some southern and coastal parts. Dry and partly cloudy for the remainder. A cool to cold day with light southerly winds, tending fresher in the southeast and near the coast.Sunday 20 JulyIsolated coastal showers and drizzle in the morning, though dry in the far west. Mostly sunny for the remainder, with morning fog and frost patches inland. A cool day with generally light winds.Monday 21 JulyCloudy with isolated showers in the far northwest. Dry and partly cloudy for the remainder. A cool day with light north to northeasterly winds, tending light and variable in the east.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.Product IDV10310
