MELBOURNE - Jul 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front over southwest Victoria will move eastwards across the State today. An associated low pressure cell will cross northern Tasmania to lie just east of Bass Strait on Friday morning then move into the Tasman Sea. A strong high pressure system will be centred just west of Victoria by late Friday, moving to the far east of the State by Sunday morning, then become slow moving. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers and local hail, with snow down to 600 metres. Showers more widespread near the coast and about the eastern ranges. Isolated thunderstorms. A cold day with fresh to strong northwesterly winds shifting squally strong west to southwesterly in the morning and afternoon, reaching gale force along parts of the coast.Friday 18 JulyScattered showers near the coast and in the east. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, generally dry in the north. Snow down to 700 metres in the morning, increasing to 1200 metres at night. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at first near the coast though gradually moderating from the west.Saturday 19 JulyIsolated showers or drizzle over the southeast and the Otways, contracting to the far southeast by the afternoon. A generally cold day with light to moderate southeast to southwesterly winds.Sunday 20 JulyIsolated light showers about the west coast, clearing in the morning. Mostly sunny for the remainder, with morning fog and frost patches inland.
