Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high will weaken as it drifts eastwards across the Tasman Sea. An upper level trough and an associated surface trough will move eastwards and off the southern coast later today. Following this, a new high over central Australia will extend a strengthening ridge eastwards over southern Queensland, with cool, dry air returning to most of the state late in the week.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms over southeast Queensland. Isolated showers about parts of the northeast coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate southeasterly winds over the tropics; moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds elsewhere.Thursday 17 JulyIsolated showers about the tropical east coast. Isolated showers developing about the Central and Capricornia coasts, mostly during the late morning and afternoon. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Areas of early morning frost over the southern and southeast interior districts. Areas of morning fog in the east. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh at times about the northern coasts and in the far south.Fire Danger -  A high fire danger in the east and parts of the northwest.Friday 18 JulyThe high should remain over South Australia and will combine with a low over the Tasman Sea to push cold, gusty southwest winds over Queensland's southeast. Just the chance of some light showers about the northeast coast. Areas of early morning frost over the southern and southeast interior.Saturday 19 JulyThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across Queensland as it drifts eastwards over Victoria. Isolated showers possible about the far northeast coast. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior, including over parts of the Atherton Tablelands and parts of the northern interior.Sunday 20 JulyThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as it moves towards eastern New South Wales. A few light showers may affect the tropical east coast. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior, including over parts of the Atherton Tablelands and parts of the northern interior.Monday until WednesdayThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as it moves slowly northeastwards and towards southeast Queensland. Isolated showers about parts of the tropical east coast, and may extend to the remaining exposed coastal areas of Queensland as the winds turn more onshore.
