MELBOURNE - Jul 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high will weaken as it drifts eastwards across the Tasman Sea. An upper level trough and an associated surface trough will move eastwards across southern Queensland today and Wednesday, moving off the southern coast on Wednesday evening. Following this, a new high over central Australia will extend a strengthening ridge eastwards over southern Queensland, with cool, dry air returning to most of the state late in the week. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers and isolated storms over the state's southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state except for some isolated light showers about the north tropical coast. Light to moderate southeasterly winds over the tropics; moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds elsewhere.Thursday 17 JulyA high over South Australia will push cool, dry air across most of Queensland. Just the chance of some light showers about the tropical parts of the east coast. Areas of early morning frost over the southern and southeast interior districts.Friday 18 JulyThe high should remain over South Australia and will combine with a low over the Tasman Sea to push cold, gusty southwest winds over Queensland's southeast. Just the chance of some light showers about the northeast coast. Areas of early morning frost over the southern and southeast interior.Saturday 19 JulyThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across Queensland as it drifts eastwards over Victoria. Widespread areas of morning frost over the interior, including over parts of the Atherton Tablelands and parts of the northern interior.Sunday until TuesdayThe high should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across most of Queensland as it moves slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea. A few light showers may return to the tropical east coast early next week as winds tend more onshore.
