Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening cold front over western Victoria will slip southeastwards during Wednesday morning but a stronger cold front will be crossing Bight waters and will reach the west of the State Wednesday night, crossing to the east early on Thursday. An associated low pressure system will cross Tasmania during Thursday to lie east of Bass strait on Friday morning then move rapidly east over the Tasman Sea. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Friday and move across southern Victoria later on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain about the northeast, easing to showers during the morning. Isolated showers elsewhere, briefly clearing over most southern and western areas later this morning before scattered showers redevelop in the southwest later this afternoon and extend to all western and central districts tonight. Snowfalls down to 1300 metres. A cool and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.Thursday 17 JulyScattered showers and local hail, falling as snow above 600 metres. Showers more widespread near the coast and about the eastern ranges. The chance of thunderstorms in the south. A cold day with fresh to strong northwesterly winds shifting squally strong west to southwesterly in the afternoon and reaching gale force along parts of the coast.Friday 18 JulyScattered showers near the coast and in the east, falling as snow above 600 metres in the morning, increasing to 1200 metres at night. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, generally dry in the north. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Saturday 19 JulyIsolated showers in southern and mountain Victoria, falling as snow above 1300 metres. Cold day with light to moderate southwest to southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
