MELBOURNE - Jul 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located in the Tasman Sea while a cold front is crossing the Bight. The cold front will be weakening as it slides across southwestern Victoria and Bass Strait early Wednesday but a stronger cold front is expected to develop south of the Bight. This front will enter the southwest of the State early on Thursday and move rapidly eastwards to clear eastern districts by late afternoon. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Friday and move across southern Victoria later on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayCloudy with patchy rain near and north of the dividing range, becoming more extensive over the northeast this evening. Isolated showers in the south but mostly dry over East Gippsland. Snowfalls over Alpine regions above 1300 metres. Light to moderate northerly winds, fresh at times in the south and about the ranges.Wednesday 16 JulyAreas of rain about the northeast at first, easing during the morning. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, though mostly dry over Gippsland. Showers increasing over the southwest during the late afternoon and evening. Snowfalls down to 1300 metres. A cool and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.Thursday 17 JulyScattered showers and local hail, falling as snow above 600 metres. Showers more widespread near the coast and about the eastern ranges. The chance of thunderstorms in the south. A cold day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly.Friday 18 JulyScattered showers near the coast and in the east, falling as snow above 600 metres in the morning, increasing to 1200 metres at night. Isolated showers in remaining southern and mountain districts, generally dry in the north. A cold day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Saturday 19 JulyIsolated showers in southern and mountain Victoria, falling as snow above 1300 metres.
