Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 13/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high is drifting across Victoria and into the southern Tasman Sea, while a series of weak upper level troughs will move across southwestern Queensland during the day. A more significant upper trough will move into southwestern Queensland on Tuesday, and it, along with an associated surface trough, will move eastwards across the southern interior in the middle of the week.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers about much of the east coast. Widespread cloud and areas of patchy, light rain developing over western Queensland and extending across the interior during the day. Areas of early frost over the southeast interior and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, fresh at times near the southern and northern east coast.Tuesday 15 JulyThe high should weaken as it moves into the Tasman Sea, but will still push some showers across Queensland's eastern districts in an onshore wind flow. An upper trough should strengthen over the western districts and should produce some patchy areas of light rain. The light rain areas will likely turn into showers near the trough during the afternoon. There is a small chance of thunderstorms about the far southern interior near the surface trough. Fine though partly cloudy over the northern interior.Wednesday 16 JulyThe chance of some showers about parts of the tropical east coast in a weakening onshore flow. The upper trough, and associated shower activity, should shift across the southeast of the state, and then clear off the coast late in the day. There is a small chance of thunderstorms in the far south, to the west of the Great Dividing Range as the trough moves through. A new ridge of high pressure over central Australia will push dry and cool westerly winds across the state, spreading into the southeast after the showers clear.Thursday 17 JulyThe ridge over central Australia should continue to push cool, dry air across most of Queensland. Just the chance of some light showers about the northeast tropical coast.Friday until SundayThe ridge over central Australia should maintain fine, cool and dry conditions across Queensland, with widespread areas of morning frost returning to the interior. Chilly, gusty winds about the southeast of the state on Friday as a low develops in the Tasman Sea. The only possibility of showers will be about the northeastern tropics on Friday and contracting to the far northeastern Peninsula during Saturday and Sunday. Morning frost areas will likely re-develop from Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
