Bigger Spring Wheat Crop

WASHINGTON - Jul 11/14 - SNS -- Spring wheat production other than durum is forecast at 565 million bushels, up 6% from last year, according to the USDA 's latest crop production estimates.

Area harvested for grain is expected to total 12.4 million acres, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2014 but up 9% from last year. The United States yield is forecast at 45.5 bushels per acre, down 1.6 bushels from 2013.

Crop development has been behind normal this spring primarily due to excessive moisture in Minnesota and North Dakota. In the six major producing States, 26% of the crop was at or beyond the heading stage as of June 29, ten percentage points ahead of last year but 3 percentage points behind the 5-year average.
