MELBOURNE - Jul 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system near Tasmania is moving steadily east, with an associated cold front crossing New South Wales. This system is bringing vigorous winds to most of the state today, which should ease overnight as the low moves further away and a high pressure ridge develops extends across from the west. This ridge will be short-lived, however, as another cold front is expected to affect the region during Saturday. Following this, the next high is expect to strengthen on approach and should establish itself as the dominant synoptic feature early in the new week. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPersistent snow showers on the southern Alps, with blizzard conditions possible. Scattered showers about western slopes of the southern and central tablelands, falling as snow above 900 metres, easing in the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere on the tablelands, with the chance of snow flurries about higher parts of the Hunter and Northern Tablelands districts. Possible morning showers over the southern inland. Fine and partly cloudy along the coast, and through the central and northern inland. Cold, gusty westerly winds, reaching strong to gale force in the southeast. Dangerous surf conditions on the coast south from about port Macquarie.Friday 11 JulyIsolated showers on western slopes of the southern ranges, with snow showers above 1300 metres. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early fog and frost about the ranges. Westerly winds moderating and tending northwesterly.Saturday 12 JulyIsolated showers developing across the southern and central inland, becoming more widespread in the southeast. Snow showers on the southern ranges lowering to about 700 metres during the day, more persistent on the Alps, and late snow showers on high parts of the central tablelands. Early frost on the ranges. Westerly winds freshening and turning cold, strong and gusty southwesterly in the southeast.Sunday 13 JulyIsolated coastal showers, more likely in the north. Fine elsewhere. Early frosts inland.
