MELBOURNE - Jul 9/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system near Tasmania will move over the southern Tasman Sea on Thursday and an associated cold air mass over Victoria will move eastwards. A cold front is expected reach far western Victoria Friday night then cross the State early Saturday. A high pressure system will cross Bight waters on Saturday before moving over Victoria late on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers, mostly over southern and mountain areas with snowfalls down to 700 metres. The chance of hail and thunder, contracting to the coast late tonight. Cold with moderate northwest to southwesterly winds.Thursday 10 JulyScattered showers on and south of the ranges, gradually easing from the west, only isolated showers over the northwest. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres in the early morning, rising to 1200 metres in the afternoon. Cool to cold and with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong about the exposed coast.Friday 11 JulyIsolated showers in the southwest and about the dividing range during the morning, then showers increasing from the west and about the ranges later in the day. Mainly dry over East Gippsland and the far northwest. Cool with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strengthening about the coast before a late colder southwesterly change in the southwestern district.Saturday 12 JulyScattered showers, more extensive over parts of Gippsland and Central Victoria during the morning but becoming isolated from the west during the afternoon. Hail possible with the showers. Snowfalls down to 600 metres. Cold with fresh southwesterly winds, easing later over the west.Sunday 13 JulyA cold morning inland with local frosts. Isolated showers in the south and east contracting to the coast.
