Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 9/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak high over southeast Queensland extends a ridge over northeastern NSW. The high and ridge will weaken further and move east today as a strong cold front crosses NSW. The front is expected to cross the west during the morning, the southeast in the afternoon, then the northeast in the evening or at night. Northwesterly winds will strengthen ahead of the front before of a cold, strong and gusty westerly change, particularly affecting southern and central districts. A low pressure system associated with the front is expected to pass to the south of the state on Thursday, maintaining cold, strong and gusty westerly winds across the state, once again particularly for southern and central districts with further snowfall expected for the southern and central ranges. Winds will ease for Friday as a weak ridge develops over NSW but another cold front is expected over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers in the southern and central inland becoming more widespread about the western slopes of the southern ranges during the day. Snow on the southern ranges above 1300 metres, lowering to about the 900 metre level. Isolated snow showers on the central ranges above about 1100 metres later in the day. Possible local thunder and small hail over the southern and central inland. Mostly sunny and quite mild in the north and along the coast. Early frost patches about the ranges in the north. Strengthening northwesterly winds before a cold, strong and gusty westerly change, expected in the west during the morning, the southeast in the afternoon, then the northeast in the evening or at night. Winds possibly reaching gale-force about the southeast third of the state.Fire Danger -  Very high fire danger for the Hunter, Mid North Coast, Sydney Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Illawarra and North West Slopes districts.Thursday 10 JulyIsolated showers over the southern and central inland, tending scattered on the ranges and western slopes. Snow showers above about 900 metres on the central and southern ranges, retreating to higher levels during the day. Possible isolated showers about southern parts of the northern ranges with snow above about 1100 metres. Mostly sunny along much of the coast and in the north. Cold, fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds, possibly reaching gale-force in the southeast. Dangerous surf conditions.Friday 11 JulyIsolated showers over the southern inland, more widespread about the western slopes of the ranges with snow above 1300 metres on the Alps. Fine and mostly sunny remainder. Early fog and frost about the ranges. Westerly winds easing and tending northwesterly, though remaining moderate to fresh in the south.Saturday 12 JulyIsolated showers developing in the south and over the central inland, more widespread in the southeast. Snow on the southern ranges lowering to about the 700 metre level during the day, and snow showers on the central ranges above about 1000 metres later. Early frost on the ranges. Westerly winds freshening and turning cold, strong southwesterly in the southeast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDN10031
