Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 5/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening surface trough lies over the western Coral Sea onto the central Queensland coast, and will move offshore overnight. A ridge of high high pressure is developing through central inland Queensland as a high over South Australia moves eastwards. Another, stronger trough will move over southeast Queensland early Monday morning, leading to increasing winds but no rainfall is expected.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers about the far southeast of the state, clearing during the early morning with fine and sunny conditions spreading from the west. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with only isolated light showers about the far northeast coast. Moderate to fresh southeast to southwest winds.Sunday 6 JulyFine and sunny across the state except for isolated light showers near Torres Strait, and partly cloudy conditions over the southern Darling Downs. Cool to cold with widespread morning frosts over the central, southern and southeast interior. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Very High over western parts of the Central Highlands.Monday 7 JulyThe high will move slowly eastwards across southern Queensland, and combined with the dry airmass in place, will maintain fine, dry and sunny conditions across most of the state. A trough moving over the southeast corner will lead to increasing southwesterly winds, and some cloudiness across the southern Darling Downs, but no rainfall is expected. Widespread morning frost over the central, southern and southeast interior.Tuesday 8 JulyA ridge of high pressure should persist over southern Queensland maintaining fine and sunny conditions. Widespread morning frost over the central, southern and southeast interior.Wednesday 9 JulyA strong upper trough and its associated cold front will sweep into western Queensland, reaching the far western Darling Downs, central highlands and Gulf Country by the evening. This will lead to windy conditions, and a colder airmass moving into the west, but the very dry air ahead of this feature will prevent any rainfall, or even significant cloud. winds will ease along the tropical east coast as the ridge weakens, and fine conditions should continue.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper trough and cold front will sweep offshore, with a ridge quickly becoming reestablished across the south of the state. This will maintain fine and dry conditions across most of the state. Widespread morning frosts are likely to continue over the central, southern and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
