MELBOURNE - Jul 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system located over western New South Wales will move into the Tasman Sea during Thursday. The next cold front and associated low pressure system will move through the Bight on Thursday to enter western Victoria later on Friday. The low will weaken into a trough extending through central and eastern Bass Strait during Saturday. On Sunday a ridge of high pressure will move east from the Bight into western Victoria, as the trough slowly moves into the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayThe chance of a light shower in the southwest and near Wilsons Promontory, otherwise fine and partly cloudy. Light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Thursday 3 JulyMorning fog and frost patches in the northeast and Gippsland. A fine and mainly sunny afternoon throughout. Generally cool with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds.Friday 4 JulyScattered showers developing in the southwest and about the eastern ranges in the morning, extending to northeastern areas by the evening. Showers tending isolated in the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the far southwest. Snowfalls down to 1300 metres. Freshening north to northwesterly winds.Saturday 5 JulyIsolated showers tending scattered about the ranges and coastal parts. Showers clearing north of the Dividing Range by the evening, easing over the remainder. Snow down to 1500 metres. A cool day with north to northwesterly winds shifting moderate southwest to southeasterly, easing later.Sunday 6 JulyIsolated showers on and south of the Dividing Range, tending scattered in the southeast. Showers clearing from the west during the afternoon and contracting to the far southeast by the evening. Snow showers down to 1400 metres about the ranges.
