U.S. Flaxseed Area Jumps 83%

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/14 - SNS -- Area planted to flaxseed in the U.S. this year is estimated at 332,000 acres, up 151,000 acres or 83% more than was planted in 2013, according to the USDA's seeded area report for 2014.

Acreage in North Dakota, the largest flaxseed-producing State, is up 100%, or 150,000 acres from 2013. Growers in that State were unable to plant all of their intended acreage last year due to unfavorable spring planting conditions.
