WASHINGTON - Jun 30/14 - SNS -- Canola producers in the United States planted 1.75 million acres in 2014, up 30% from 2013, according to the USDA's seeded area report for 2014.

Estimated planted area in the Nation is the second largest on record. Planted area in North Dakota, the leading canola-producing State, is estimated at 1.27 million acres, up 38% from last year. The harvested area for the Nation is forecast at 1.67 million acres, up 32% from last year.

North Dakota acreage is up significantly from last year when wet conditions and cool temperatures delayed planting. Planting progress reached 98% complete by June 15, compared with the 5-year average of 87% complete for that day. At that time, 84% had emerged, 33 percentage points ahead of last year and 9 points ahead of the 5-year average.
