Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high the southern Coral Sea will move slowly eastwards, with the ridge along the Queensland tropical east coast weakening. A strong upper trough and associated cold front over central Australia will move rapidly eastwards across Queensland during Saturday, followed by a new ridge from the next high pressure system over southwestern Australia. The new high will move slowly across southern Australia next week, maintaining a firm ridge over Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of FridayFine and clear across most of the state. Isolated light showers about the northeast and central coasts. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 28 JuneIsolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeast during the afternoon and evening; a few of these storms may be severe over the far southeast. Isolated showers along the central and far northern coasts. fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate south to southeasterly winds in the north; moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly winds over the south.Fire Danger -  Very High over parts of the southern inland.Sunday 29 JuneThe large high over southwest Australia will extend a firm ridge across central Queensland. This should provide cool and dry southwest to southerly winds across most of Queensland. Fine and sunny over most of Queensland, with only isolated showers along the far northeast coast. Patches of early morning frost about the southern interior, although these should be restricted to more sheltered areas given the breezy conditions.Monday 30 JuneThe high will strengthen and move slowly towards the head of the Great Australian Bight, maintaining fine, dry and sunny conditions across Queensland, apart from isolated light showers near Torres Strait. Extensive areas of morning frost over the central, southern and southeastern interior.Tuesday 1 JulyThe large high should maintain its intensity and move very slowly eastwards across southern Australia, keeping most of Queensland fine, dry and sunny. Isolated light showers near Torres Strait and possibly developing over Fraser Island. Areas of morning frost over the central, southern and southeastern interior.Wednesday until FridayThe high should drift gradually across southeastern Australia, keeping most of Queensland fine, dry and sunny. Isolated showers should develop about most of the east coast as winds tend more onshore.
