MELBOURNE - Jun 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will cross the Bight on Friday, with an associated low pressure system crossing waters south of the Bight to be just west of Tasmania by Saturday morning. This front will cross most of the State on Saturday, as the low moves over western Bass Strait and then through eastern Bass Strait on Sunday. A strong high pressure system will move towards Adelaide later on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers contracting to the coast and east ranges. Snow down to 1500 metres about the Alpine districts. Moderate northwesterly winds, fresh at first near the coast.Friday 27 JuneDrizzle over the northeast ranges during the morning, possibly falling as snow on the peaks. Scattered showers developing over western districts during the afternoon, possibly reaching central districts in the evening. Otherwise a dry, cool with a fresh to strong north to northwesterly wind, reaching gale force at times about the ranges and in the south.Saturday 28 JuneShowers near and south of the ranges tending more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms in the southwest and local hail possible in the south. Snowfalls lowering to 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with fresh to locally strong northwesterly winds shifting westerly over western and central districts in the afternoon and evening.Sunday 29 JuneShowers near and south of the ranges tending more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms with local hail possible. Snowfalls lowering to 800 metres. A cold day with fresh to locally strong west to southwesterly winds.Monday 30 JuneScattered showers in southern and mountain districts, becoming isolated on the northern slopes. Snow down to 900 metres in the morning, rising to 1400 metres in the afternoon.
