Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge over southern Queensland will move southwards to inland NSW on Wednesday as the next cold front approaches the western Victorian border on Wednesday night. This front will rapidly cross the State on Thursday morning. Another strong cold front will cross the Bight on Friday with an associated low pressure system crossing waters south of the Bight. This front is likely to cross western and central districts on Saturday, clearing eastern districts on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers, mostly near and south of the ranges tending more widespread over the northeast ranges. Only isolated showers in the far northwest and over East Gippsland. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the Gippsland coast in the morning. Showers becoming isolated during the afternoon but increasing again in the southwest and over the northeast ranges towards the evening. Isolated thunderstorm possible near the western coast tonight Snow down to 1200 metres, rising to 1500 metres by the evening. Remaining cool to cold with fresh to strong west to northwest winds, reaching gale force at times over parts of the coast.Thursday 26 JuneScattered showers near and south of the ranges with isolated showers elsewhere. Showers contracting to the coast and east ranges during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the central and western coasts early in the morning. Snow down to 1400 metres. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds tending reaching gale force at times along the coastal fringe and Alpine areas.Friday 27 JuneDrizzle over the northeast ranges during the morning. Scattered showers developing over western districts during the afternoon, possibly reaching central districts in the evening. Otherwise a dry, cool to mild day with freshening northerly winds.Saturday 28 JuneShowers near and south of the ranges tending more isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms near the central and western coasts and local hail possible in the south. Snowfalls lowering to 900 metres. A cool to cold day with fresh to locally strong northwesterly winds shifting westerly over western and central districts in the afternoon and evening.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
