Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front crossed southeast NSW late yesterday and overnight with a cold westerly airflow in its wake and snow about the southern ranges. An intense low pressure system west of Tasmania is expected to move east/northeast through Bass Strait today resulting in strong winds for much of NSW and gales for the southeast third or so, particularly this afternoon. Lows passing to the south of Tasmania and associated fronts crossing southern NSW will result in strong, cool to cold westerly winds over southern and central parts of the state until Friday, lighter winds and milder conditions are expected in the north under the influence of a high pressure ridge.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers over the southern and central inland tending widespread on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Snow on the southern ranges to about the 700 metre level, rising to about 1200 metres during the day. Some snow also on the central ranges above 1000 metres this morning. Mostly sunny remainder. Cold, fresh to strong westerly winds over southern and central districts, reaching gale force about the southeast third, particularly during the afternoon. Milder, fresh westerly winds in the north, though cold and gusty on the Northern Tablelands.Wednesday 25 JuneIsolated showers along the western slopes of the central and southern ranges, more frequent in the south, with snow showers above 1100m over the southern ranges, and 1300m over the central ranges. Partly cloudy over the remainder of the inland, mostly sunny along the coast. West to northwest winds, fresh to strong and gusty along the ranges.Thursday 26 JuneIsolated showers along the western slopes of the central and southern ranges, more frequent in the south, with snow showers above 1400m. Partly cloudy elsewhere in the southern inland. Mostly sunny in the north and along the coast. West to northwest winds, fresh to strong and gusty along the ranges.Friday 27 JuneIsolated showers along the western slopes of the central and southern ranges, more frequent in the south, with snow showers above 1600 metres. Partly cloudy in the south, mostly sunny in the north. Fresh north to northwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDN10031
