Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front over central Victoria will sweep across eastern districts this evening. An associated low pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania on Tuesday, while a second intense low pressure centre and a vigorous cold front crosses Bass Strait and southern Victoria. A high pressure system will ridge over inland NSW and northern Victoria on Wednesday, ahead of the next cold front expected to reach the western border on Wednesday night and then cross the State on Thursday. Another cold front will cross the Bight on Friday with an associated low pressure sytem crossing waters south of the Bight.
Forecast for the rest of MondayShowers with local hail and thunderstorms over most districts and tending to areas of rain about the northeast. Blizzard conditions over Alpine areas with snowfalls lowering to 600 metres tonight. Fresh to strong west to northwesterly winds reaching gale force over Alpine areas.Tuesday 24 JuneShowers, more frequent in the south and about the eastern ranges but tending isolated over the East Gippsland and the far northwest. Showers tending to rain across the ranges and southwest during the morning. Local hail and thunder, mainly over the east in the morning and near the coast during the day. Snowfalls down to 600 metres, rising to 1200 metres in the evening with Blizzard conditions continuing over Alpine areas. Cool to cold with strong northwest winds, shifting squally west to southwesterly during the day and reaching gale force at times in the south.Wednesday 25 JuneScattered showers near and south of the ranges tending more extensive over the northeast and near the central and western coasts. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the Gippsland coast in the morning. Showers easing during the day but increasing again in the southwest towards the evening with isolated thunderstorm possible near the western coast. Only isolated showers in the far northwest and over East Gippsland. Snow down to 1200 metres, rising to 1400 meters by the evening. Remaining cool to cold with fresh to strong west to northwest winds, reaching gale force over Alpine areas and parts of the coast.Thursday 26 JuneScattered showers near and south of the ranges with isolated showers elsewhere. Showers contracting to the coast and east ranges during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder in the south, mainly near the coast and during the morning. Snow down to 1400 metres. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds tending reaching gale force at times along the coastal fringe and Alpine areas.Friday 27 JuneIsolated showers near and south of the ranges, mostly clearing by late morning but showers re-developing over the southwest in the afternoon reaching central districts by the evening. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres. Cool in the south, milder over the northwest with moderate to fresh northerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
