MELBOURNE - Jun 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front will cross Victoria today. An associated low pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania on Tuesday, while a second intense low pressure centre and a vigorous cold front crosses Bass Strait and southern Victoria. A high pressure system will ridge over inland NSW and northern Victoria on Wednesday, ahead of the next cold front expected to reach the western border on Wednesday night and then cross the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayShowers, local hail and thunderstorms extending from the west and tending to areas of rain about the northeast. Blizzard conditions developing over Alpine areas with snowfalls above 1600 metres developing this morning gradually lowering to 700 metres tonight. Strong to gale force northerly winds shifting colder west to northwesterly.Tuesday 24 JuneScattered showers, more frequent in the south and about the eastern ranges but tending isolated over the East Gippsland and the far northwest. Local hail and thunder, mainly near the coast and contracting east and clearing by mid afternoon. Snowfalls down to 700 metres, rising to 1200 metres in the evening. Cool to cold with strong northwest winds, shifting squally west to southwesterly during the day and reaching gale force at times in the south.Wednesday 25 JuneScattered showers in the south and over the east ranges, easing during the morning but increasing again in the southwest towards the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere although mainly fine in the far northwest and over East Gippsland. Snow down to 1200 metres, rising to 1400 meters by the evening. Remaining cool to cold with fresh to strong west to northwest winds.Thursday 26 JuneScattered showers over most of the State, more frequent about the coast and east ranges at first and contracting to the coast and east ranges during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder in the south and snow down to 1300 metres.
