Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough will weaken over western Victoria this evening. On Sunday a strong cold front will cross the Bight to approach western Victoria at night and then move across the State on Monday, reaching central areas in the afternoon and the northeast by the evening. An associated low pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania on Tuesday as another vigorous cold front crosses southern Victoria. A high pressure system will ridge over inland NSW on Wednesday, but further fronts are expected with another to cross Victoria early Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers over most of the State, becoming isolated and contracting to the ranges and northern slopes of the divide. Showers falling as snow above 1600 metres. Possible thunderstorms over the northeast. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds in the east and west to northwest winds in the far west.Sunday 22 JuneMorning fog patches. Isolated light showers and drizzle patches on and north of the dividing range and isolated showers developing in the far southwest in the evening. A cool day with moderate to fresh northerly winds strengthening in southern and mountain areas at night.Monday 23 JuneAreas of rain contracting eastwards across the State during the day then scattered showers with local hail and thunder to follow, more frequent in the southwest and about the east ranges. Snowfalls over Alpine areas, lowering to 700 metres by Monday night. Strong to gale force northerly winds shifting colder west to southwesterly in the west.Tuesday 24 JuneScattered showers, more frequent in the south and about the east ranges but tending isolated over the Gippsland coast and northwest. Local hail and thunder contracting east and clearing. Snowfalls down to 700 metres, rising to 1200 metres in the evening. Cool to cold with strong northwest winds shifting southwesterly during the day, reaching gale force at times in the south.Wednesday 25 JuneIsolated showers, more frequent in the south and about the east ranges and just a chance over the northwest inland. Mainly fine over East Gippsland. Snow down to 1400 meters. Remaining cool to cold with fresh to strong west northwest winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Sunday.Product IDV10310
