Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is drifting eastwards through the north Tasman Sea. A small low pressure system west of Tasmania will weaken near western Bass Strait on Saturday. On Sunday a strengthening cold front will move from the Bight region to approach western Victoria at night. This cold front will weaken over western Victoria early on Monday, as another low pressure system forms south of Adelaide. This low should move through western and central Bass Strait on Monday, with an associated cold front moving through western and central Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers extending from the west, but remaining dry over the northwest and East Gippsland. Showers tending to be more extensive over the southwest and the northern slopes of the ranges with showers falling as snow above 1500 metres. Light to moderate north to northwesterly winds.Saturday 21 JuneScattered showers over most districts, contracting eastwards. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres. A cool day with light to moderate northwesterly winds tending west to southwesterly in the west and easing during the evening.Sunday 22 JuneIsolated showers in the north, clearing in the afternoon. A cool day with moderate to fresh northerly winds strengthening in southern and mountain areas at night.Monday 23 JuneShowers extending eastwards, particularly in mountain areas. Local hail and thunder. Snowfalls developing down to 800 metres. Strong to gale force northerly winds shifting colder west to southwesterly in the west.Tuesday 24 JuneScattered showers in most districts, tending isolated in the east and northwest. Local hail and thunder. Snowfalls down to 700 metres, rising to 1100 metres in the evening. Strong northwest to southwesterly winds, reaching gale force near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Saturday.Product IDV10310
