Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system over southeastern Australia will move slowly eastwards and enter the Tasman Sea today. A trough will enter western Queensland on Friday and move eastwards across the south of the state during Friday and Saturday before shifting off the east coast early on Sunday morning.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated light showers along the east coast and adjacent inland. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior, although some high cloud over the far south. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh along the east coast.Friday 20 JuneA surface and upper level trough system is expected to move into western parts of the state whilst the high in the Tasman Sea will weaken. Isolated showers are possible about the east coast and should extend into the central and southern inland as the trough approaches. Remaining fine and sunny over the far western districts and the northern interior. Frosts are no longer expected as milder, more moist air spreads to most of the state.Saturday 21 JuneA new high over central Australia should push dry air into Queensland's interior, keeping the western and central inland districts fine and sunny. Isolated showers are possible about the southeast districts and the southeast interior as the trough system moves eastwards across the south. Isolated showers along parts of the east coast.Sunday 22 JuneThe trough system will move off the southern coast early in the morning, while the ridge of high pressure over central Australia will push dry air across much of the state, leading to fine and mostly sunny conditions. Isolated showers possible along the northern coast. Frosts are likely to return to the southern interior.Monday until WednesdayThe ridge of high pressure will persist along the tropical east coast, with just a few light showers likely in the onshore flow. Over the southern half of the state, another upper trough and its associated cold front will sweep eastwards, and off the east coast by Tuesday morning, however the dry airmass in place will limit the effects of these systems to just some high cloud at times. Frosts are likely to continue over the southern interior in cloud-free areas.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
