Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure extends along the east coast from a high near New Zealand. The ridge will gradually weaken as the high drifts further southeast by Friday. A surface trough over the far southwest of the state will continue moving eastwards, with an upper level trough to follow through southern Queensland on Friday. A new high over Western Australia combined with a low off the southern New South Wales coast on the weekend should push cooler and drier air into Queensland from the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. Cloud increasing in the west with patchy rain developing in the southwest. Isolated showers in the northwest of the state. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh about the east coast. Winds becoming south to southwesterly in the far west of the state.Friday 13 JuneIsolated showers in the tropics, tending scattered about eastern areas between about Cooktown and Bowen. Showers increasing through the tropical interior during the day, possibly tending to patchy rain. Cloudy over the southwest, southern and central interior with some patchy rain developing from the west, becoming more widespread during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers in the southeast. Patchy frost possible about the Granite Belt. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, becoming west to southwesterly over western areas.Saturday 14 JuneThe surface and upper trough will both progress to the east across southern Queensland, extending a band of patchy, light to moderate rain over the southeast and central east districts. Isolated showers about the northern tropics, tending scattered near the North Tropical Coast. Fine and dry in the interior, with a cool to mild day. Below average temperatures in the west. Strong winds developing over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters during the morning.Sunday 15 JuneThe surface trough will push east over the Coral Sea, with cooler and drier air over most of the state. Isolated showers over the far northeast of the state. Isolated showers possible over the southeast interior. Frost areas possible over the southern interior with below average temperatures over much of the state. Strong winds over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters during the morning and developing along parts of the tropical coast during the day.Monday 16 JuneCool and dry air over most of the state. Isolated showers over the far northeast of the state due to the remnant upper trough lingering over the area. Frost areas likely over the southeast and southern interior, possibly extending into the central interior. Strong winds over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters during the morning and along parts of the tropical coast during the day.Tuesday until ThursdayThe cool and dry airmass will be maintained over the state apart from the tropics. Isolated showers possible about the tropics in the onshore airstream. Fine and sunny elsewhere, with only a little cloud expected about the southern and southwestern border. Below average temperatures will extend across most of the state, with areas of frost likely through the southern and southeastern interior.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
