MELBOURNE - Jun 11/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast. The ridge should weaken during Thursday. An upper level trough is expected to move across the state from Thursday, and a new high over South Australia should push cooler, dry air into Queensland from late in the week. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and sunny across most of the state except for some mainly isolated showers about the east coast. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh about the east coast.Fire Danger - High in the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Low to moderate over the remainder.Thursday 12 JuneThe ridge should weaken over eastern Australia, but there still should be enough onshore flow to produce some mainly isolated showers near Queensland's east coast. An approaching upper level trough will extend some patchy light to moderate rain over the Channel Country late in the day and some isolated showers into the northwest. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Isolated areas of light frost about the Granite Belt.Friday 13 JuneThe upper trough should move eastwards across the state, extending a band of patchy light to moderate rain over the southern and western interior districts. Increasing humidity levels should result in some showers over the northern tropics, tending to rain periods about the Cassowary Coast. Scattered showers developing about the southeast as humidity increases a little. Becoming cooler and drier later in the day over the west after the surface trough passes through.Saturday 14 JuneThe surface and upper trough will both progress to the east across southern Queensland, extending a band of patchy, light to moderate rain over the southeast and central east districts. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics, and fine and dry in the interior. A cool to mild day over the interior.Sunday until TuesdayA firm high over Western Australia will push dry air across most of Queensland from Sunday, leaving the state fine, dry and mostly sunny except for just the chance of some isolated showers over the Peninsula district. Morning and daytime temperatures are likely to be a little below the June average, and certainly below those experienced in the past few weeks, but by no means unusually cold.
