Weather Situation
A strong high close to Tasmania will move slowly eastwards over the next few days, extending a firm ridge into much of Queensland. An upper trough over northern Queensland will move further east during this evening, contracting off the northeast coast of Queensland on Tuesday morning. A trough will deepen further over the Coral Sea today in response to the upper trough.
Forecast for the rest of MondayPatchy rain will contract off the tropical east cost by evening. Isolated showers will persist about the eastern tropics and adjacent inland, tending scattered at times about northeast tropical coast and ranges. Isolated showers about exposed parts of the coast south of about Bundaberg. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Moderate south to southeast winds across the state, fresh to strong at times about the east coast.Tuesday 10 JuneIsolated showers about the central and tropical east coast, tending scattered at times about the exposed coast and ranges. Isolated showers also about the coast from Fraser Island southwards, with possible showers extending to the adjacent inland during the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Moderate south to southeast winds across the state, fresh to strong at times about the east coast.Fire Danger - High in the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Low to moderate over the remainder of the state.Wednesday 11 JuneThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea and will combine with the low over the Coral Sea to push fresh to strong southeast winds onto much of the east coast. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast, more frequent about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny across the interior with temperatures generally a few degrees warmer than average for the time of year.Thursday 12 JuneBoth the high in the Tasman Sea and the low in the Coral Sea should weaken with winds easing about Queensland's east coast. Isolated showers are still expected along the coast and over nearby inland areas, more frequent about the north tropical coast. A surface trough will enter the southwest of the state during the day. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior with temperatures generally a few degrees warmer than average for the time of year.Friday 13 JuneA surface and upper trough will likely track across the south of the state during the day, approaching eastern districts in late evening. Isolated showers are possible with the passage of the upper trough through central and southern interior districts. Onshore flow will remain weak over the southeast of the coast with just the chance of coastal showers. Showers will become more frequent about the eastern tropics in a stronger onshore flow. Fine and partly cloudy through the eastern interior.Saturday until MondayThe upper trough will remain slow moving over the east of the state over the weekend before clearing the coast on Monday. A new high will develop further over South Australia and will direct a dry southwest to southeasterly flow across the state, maintaining fine, cool and mostly sunny conditions over the southern half of the state. Isolated showers are still likely to persist about the northeastern tropics in a weak onshore flow. Showers will likely also redevelop about the exposed southern coast on Monday with the passage of a coastal surface trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
