Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high close to Tasmania will move slowly eastwards over the next few days, extending a firm ridge into much of Queensland. An upper trough over northern Queensland will move slowly eastwards during today, contracting off the northeast coast of Queensland on Tuesday morning. A trough will develop over the Coral Sea today in response to the upper trough .
Forecast for the rest of MondayRain areas over the eastern tropics, breaking up to scattered showers during the day. Isolated showers about exposed parts of the coast south of about Bundaberg. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Moderate south to southeast winds across the state, fresh to strong at times about the east coast.Tuesday 10 JuneThe high should lie over the Tasman Sea, and it, along with a low pressure system in the Coral Sea, will drive fresh to strong southeast winds and showers onto the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere under the influence of the ridge.Wednesday 11 JuneThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea and will combine with the low over the Coral Sea to push fresh to strong southeast winds onto much of the east coast. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast, more frequent about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny across the interior with temperatures generally a few degrees warmer than average for the time of year.Thursday 12 JuneBoth the high in the Tasman Sea and the low in the Coral Sea should weaken with winds easing about Queensland's east coast. Isolated showers are still expected along the coast and over nearby inland areas, more frequent about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior with temperatures generally a few degrees warmer than average for the time of year.Friday until SundayAnother upper trough should move eastwards across Queensland next weekend, extending areas of showers across the interior, however uncertainty remains about the strength and impact of this weather system at this stage. Showers should continue about the east coast and nearby inland areas. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
