MELBOURNE - Jun 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards over the next few days, extending a firm ridge into much of Queensland. An upper trough over northern Queensland will move offshore during Monday. Forecast for the rest of SundayRain areas with some local thunder over the eastern tropics. Mainly isolated showers over parts of the coast south of about St. Lawrence. Fine and mostly clear through the interior. Light to moderate south to southeast winds across the state, fresh at times about the east coast.Monday 9 JuneRain areas over the eastern tropics, breaking up to scattered showers late in the day. Isolated showers about parts of the coast south of about St. Lawrence. Fine and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Light to moderate south to southeast winds across the state, fresh at times about the east coast.Tuesday 10 JuneThe high should lie over the Tasman Sea, and it, along with a low pressure system in the Coral Sea, will drive fresh to strong southeast winds and showers onto the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere under the influence of the ridge.Wednesday 11 JuneThe high should in the Tasman Sea and the low over the Coral Sea should continue to push fresh to strong southeast winds and showers onto the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny across the interior.Thursday 12 JuneBoth the high in the Tasman Sea and the low in the Coral Sea should weaken, allow winds to ease about Queensland's east coast, though showers are still expected along the coast and over nearby inland areas. Fine, sunny and mild over the interior.Friday until SundayAnother upper trough should move eastwards across Queensland next weekend, extending areas of showers across the interior, however uncertainty remains about the strength and impact of this weather system.
