Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high over southern Australia will move slowly eastwards over the next few days, extending a firm ridge into much of Queensland. An upper trough will enter northwestern Queensland during the weekend and intensify before shifting east over northern Queensland on Monday. Another upper trough will shift north from New South Wales into southeast Queensland on Sunday and should also intensify before shifting east over southeast districts on Monday. A surface trough will deepen over the Coral Sea early next week.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayCloud increasing through northern Queensland with patchy rain and showers developing, more frequent through the tropical interior and near the north tropical coast. Possible isolated thunderstorms near the Peninsula and Gulf Country coasts. Isolated showers about the remaining exposed east coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, strong and gusty at times near the north tropical coast.Sunday 8 JuneThe strong high should shift a little further east into southeastern Australia, while the upper trough in the northwest of the state will likely develop further and shift east. Cloud should increase further through the tropics and northern central districts with rain areas expected, more frequent near the east tropical coast. Isolated showers will occur along the remaining exposed east, also possibly developing about the southern border ranges in the afternoon. The ridge should maintain fine and sunny conditions through the interior. Cooler temperatures will develop through far northern parts under the cloud.Monday 9 JuneThe strong high will shift slowly southeast into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge through much of Queensland. The upper trough will shift east over northern Queensland, with the associated rain areas also contracting east off the tropical coast during the day. Scattered showers will persist about the north tropical and central coasts in its wake however as low level winds remain moist onshore. Isolated showers should occur along the southern coast, possibly extending into the nearby inland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist through the interior of the state under the influence of the ridge.Tuesday 10 JuneThe strong high should shift a little further eastwards into the Tasman Sea whilst a low is likely to develop in the western Coral Sea off the southern tropical coast of Queensland. These two systems will maintain fresh to strong south to southeast winds along the east coast with isolated to scattered showers about the east coast and adjacent inland. The interior of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny under the influence of the ridge.Wednesday until FridayThe high in the Tasman Sea should weaken during the outlook period but is likely to maintain an onshore flow along the east coast with isolated showers continuing along much of the east coast. A trough may move west over the Coral Sea into central districts of Queensland from Thursday, extending moist east to northeast winds from the coast through the central interior and generating some shower activity, more likely near the coast. The next upper trough is likely to develop over central Australia on Friday and this could lead to increasing cloud and showers over the central and southern interior of Queensland but there is some uncertainty regarding the development of this trough.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
