Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high in the Great Australian Bight will strengthen during the remainder of this week, extending a firm ridge into much of Queensland. A series of weak upper level troughs will move east over southern Queensland during the forecast period. A stronger upper level trough is expected to develop over northern and eastern Queensland during the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated to scattered showers about the north tropical and central coasts. Isolated showers about the remaining east coast and eastern interior north of about Brisbane. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A warm day through much of the state, particularly the northwest and central interior. Moderate to fresh and gusty south to southeasterly winds in the north and west, strong at times near the far north tropical coast. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds elsewhere.Friday 6 JuneThe strong high will remain slow moving over southern Australia, directing a firm ridge and south to southeasterly wind flow across Queensland. Isolated showers will occur in the onshore wind flow about the east coast and nearby inland, particularly the north tropical and central coasts. The ridge will result in fine and sunny conditions over the interior. Above average temperatures will continue through much of the state.Saturday 7 JuneThe strong high will remain slow moving over southern Australia, continuing to direct a south to southeasterly wind flow into Queensland. Isolated showers will occur about the exposed east coast, more frequent about the north tropical coast. An upper trough will build over northwestern Queensland, increasing cloud in the far north of the state with isolated showers and some patchy rain developing. Fine and sunny conditions will persist through the interior under the ridge. Temperatures will remain near or a bit above average through much of the state.Sunday 8 JuneThe strong high will remain slow moving over southeastern Australia, while the upper trough in the northwest of the state will likely develop further and shift east. Cloud should therefore increase further through the tropics with patchy rain and scattered showers developing, more frequent near the north tropical coast. Isolated showers will occur along the remaining east coast and nearby inland, mostly north of Fraser Island. The ridge should maintain fine and sunny conditions through the interior. Cooler temperatures will develop through far northern parts under the cloud.Monday until WednesdayThe strong, slow moving high over southeastern Australia will remain the dominant feature during the outlook period as it maintains a firm ridge through much of the state. The upper trough and associated rain areas will most likely contract east and eventually off the tropical coast during the outlook period. Isolated to scattered showers will persist about the north tropical and central coasts in its wake as low level winds remain moist onshore. Isolated showers should also occur about the remaining exposed east coast in the south to southeasterly wind flow. The interior of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny under the influence of the ridge. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
