MELBOURNE - May 31/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system east of Tasmania will drift east over the Tasman Sea during the weekend. Meanwhile, a low pressure system near Adelaide will move to southern New South Wales on Sunday. The low is likely to be near eastern Bass Strait on Monday then move east of Tasmania on Tuesday as a cold front crosses waters south of the Bight. This front will move through southern Victoria on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms across northern districts, reaching southwestern and central districts at night. Mainly fine in the east. Light southeast to northeasterly winds.Sunday 1 JuneArea of rain over central and northern districts, contracting eastwards in the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers in the remainder. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the north. Cool to mild with generally light to moderate northeast winds tending south to southeasterly in the west.Monday 2 JuneScattered showers over the southeast and near the central coast. Isolated showers elsewhere near and south of the ranges with the chance of afternoon showers over the northwest. A cool to mild day with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds tending east to southeasterly about the South Gippsland and Central coasts.Tuesday 3 JuneIsolated showers near and south of the ranges contracting to the northeast during the evening, although scattered showers re-developing about the southwest coast at night. A cool to mild day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, locally fresh about the coastal fringe.Wednesday 4 JuneIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards in the afternoon and evening.
