Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving high in the western Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high will move slowly east towards New Zealand during the weekend, gradually relaxing the ridge. A trough will enter western Queensland on Saturday and shift slowly east over the interior during the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated to scattered showers about the east coast and nearby inland near and north of the Sunshine Coast. Mostly fine over remaining eastern districts with just the chance of isolated showers. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. A warm day through southern and western parts of the state. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds for most parts, fresh at times near the east coast.Saturday 31 MayThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge over eastern Queensland. Moist onshore winds will produce isolated showers over eastern districts, more scattered about the east coast and nearby inland. A trough will enter western Queensland, producing isolated showers over parts of the southern interior, with possible isolated thunderstorms near the southern interior border. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the northwest of the state.Sunday 1 JuneThe trough should continue to move slowly eastwards, entering the far southwest of the Darling Downs district late in the day. Isolated showers are expected near and to the east of the trough, mostly through the southern and southeastern interior, with isolated thunderstorms possible in the Maranoa and southern Darling Downs. Isolated showers will occur along much of the east coast, scattered about the north tropical and central coasts. A dry airmass will extend into the west of the state resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions. Maximum temperatures should return close to average in the southwest of the state.Monday 2 JuneThe trough will remain slow moving over the southeast interior of the state whilst a moist onshore flow will continue about the central and northern east coast. Isolated showers are expected about eastern districts, more frequent about the central and north tropical coasts. Isolated showers are also possible about the central and southeast interior in association with the trough. Much of western Queensland and the northern interior should be fine and mostly sunny.Tuesday until ThursdayThe trough will most likely move only slowly eastwards over the southeast of the state during Tuesday before contracting off the southeast coast on Wednesday. Isolated showers are likely about the southeast of the state on Tuesday, before contracting offshore of the coast on Wednesday. Isolated showers are also likely to continue about the east coast in the onshore flow, possible more frequent about the central and north tropical coasts. A new high should build over southeastern Australia and extend a ridge through south Queensland during the outlook period with much of western Queensland and the northern interior remaining fine and mostly sunny.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
