Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strengthening high pressure ridge lies over New South Wales today, as a trough moves away to the east. This high is forecast to drift slowly east tonight and Monday as a trough and associated cold front approach from the southwest. This system is expected to affect southern and western parts of the state during Tuesday, then weaken over the northeast on Wednesday. A long period southerly swell is expected to move northwards along the coast during Monday and abate during Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers on the central and southwest slopes of the ranges, clearing later in the afternoon. Otherwise fine and partly cloudy. Light and variable winds tending northerly in the south.Monday 26 MayFine apart from the chance of late rain in the far southwest near the South Australian border. Partly cloudy. Areas of morning fog in the east. Northeast to northwesterly winds, freshening in the west.Tuesday 27 MayRain in the west, extending through central and southeastern districts during the day, possibly reaching the southern half of the coast at night. Rain easing to showers from the west during the day. The chance of thunderstorms in the south to the west of the ranges. Fine in the northeast. Light winds in the north. North to northwesterly winds, freshening and shifting westerly in the west.Wednesday 28 MayIsolated showers in the east, tending scattered over the slopes, falling as snow about the Alpine peaks. Fine and partly cloudy in the northeast and west. West to northwesterly winds extending throughout.Thursday 29 MayChance of a shower in the northeast, southeast, and southwest slopes. Fine and mostly sunny otherwise. Light winds, tending easterly during the day.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Monday.Product IDN10031
