MELBOURNE - May 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards and is directing a fresh north to northwesterly airstream over Victoria. A cold front will cross Tasmania late Thursday and early Friday. A high pressure ridge will drift over the State on Saturday as a weakening trough approaches southwestern Victoria later. The high will strengthen over the Tasman Sea on Sunday as the weak trough affects southern Victoria. A fresh northerly wind will develop over the State on Monday ahead of a trough approaching from the west. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over the southwest with isolated showers extending to most areas by the evening, though remaining dry over East Gippsland and the far northwest Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest during the evening. North to northwesterly winds, strong at first over eastern elevated areas.Friday 23 MayScattered showers, more isolated over east Gippsland and the northwest, contracting eastwards during the day. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the northwest. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast and easing from the west.Saturday 24 MayIsolated showers, mainly in the south. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with generally light winds.Sunday 25 MayIsolated showers, mainly in the south. Mild, partly cloudy day with light winds tending moderate northerly in the west.Monday 26 MayCloud increasing with rain developing in the west.
